Changing tables are specialized pieces of baby furniture that will allow parents to change a baby’s diaper safely and easily. These changing tables can often be found in a baby changing station that is often located in restrooms of restaurants and retail stores. Typical home changing tables will feature three shelving units: two lower shelves for diaper accessory storage and an upper shelf for the actual diaper changing. Most of these changing tables are at a height that is ideal for adults to reach the child without excessive bending.

Changing tables also include high guardrails and a security strap that works like a seat belt restraint for the baby. For added comfort as well as hygiene, separate mats can also be placed on the top shelf. These changing mats can be disposable, padded, or waterproof. The idea is to keep the changing tables from becoming contaminated or weakened from excessive moisture. Parents should always test changing tables for any signs of weakness in the joints as well as the security straps before using them.

New parents are determined to provide the baby’s nursery with all these furniture.

But what nursery furniture pieces do they really need? The best choices are those that can grow with the baby. Skip the bassinet and buy a crib instead. Is it worth the short time that baby will require frequent diaper changes?
